Description

The highlands of Peru with its ancient and modern tracks, represents an ideal theater for lovers of mountain biking (Mountain bike).

The great routes develop between 3000 and 4000 meters, so a good acclimatization period of 3-4 days is necessary. For this objective some routes that are found in the surroundings of Marcarà are very important, touching places of unique beauty such as the villages at the foot of the Cordillera Blanca, with cultivated fields also in the Cordillera Negra where time seems to have stopped, to then descend endless “single track routes”.

The tour of the highest mountain in Peru. It is one of the most enjoyable cycling routes in the Cordillera Blanca, as you have to overcome Andean passes of over 4700m, great altitude differences, pass through characteristic villages and end up with the most impressive glacial circle of the Cordillera Blanca.

Itinerary

Day 01

Marcara - Copa Grande- Copa Chico:

Very interesting Tour: On a country road we will drive past fields and characteristic villages. Distanz: 20 km. Maximum altitude. 3,400 m, Ascent: 650 m. Descent: 650 m.

Day 02

Honcopampa

Fanstastic ride, which allows us to visit mysterious archeological sites such as Honcapampa and to enjoy the beauty of the surrounding mountains. Distance 40 km. Maximum altitude 3,700 m. Ascent: 950 m. Descent: 950 m.

Day 03

Marcara 2750 – Carhuaz 2700 – Punta Olimpica 4736 – Chacas 3500m.

Transfer by private minibus to Carhuaz where the real tour begins (you can also start from Marcara); having crossed the town of Silla, we will begin to climb admiring the majestic bulk of the Huascaran, always in front of us, to reach the large clearing of Ultapampa at 3945m. We continue along the zic zac to pass the pass of Punta Olimpica, there are 49 km of ascent on asphalt and after the tunnel 31 km of descent to Chacas. Length 80km. Maximum altitude 4736 m. Day 04

Chacas 3500m. – Acochaca 3000m. Paso Pupash 4050m – Yanama 3400m.

After the visit to the picturesque village of Chacas, we will set off again along a dirt road downhill to the Accochaca bridge (10 km on asphalt); from here we will begin to climb on a dirt road, and after passing through the villages of Sapcha and Wecroncocha, we will reach the Pupash pass from which we can see all of the southern Cordillera Blanca. From here, downhill to the village of Yanama. Length 52km. Maximum altitude 4050 m. Height difference uphill 1050/downhill 1150 m. Night at the hotel. Day 05

Yanama 3400 m. – Portachuelo pass of Llanganuco 4769 m. –Yungay 2460 Caraz 2290

Today we will cover another challenging stage; immediately uphill, along an Andean road. We will be surrounded by mighty peaks: the Chacraraju, and the Chaopicalqui in the first part of the route, and then Huascaran, Huandoy, Pisco and Yanapaccha. Having reached the Portachuelo pass, a spectacular descent begins which will take us to the town of Caraz. Length 80km. Maximum altitude 4767 m. Height difference uphill 1369m. /descent 2309mt. Night at the hotel in Marcara. Path in dirt road
