Highlights of the Cordillera Blanca. The highest tropical mountain range in the world, the Cordillera Blanca is part of the spectacular Andes that form the spine of South America. A mecca for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts, the region boasts over 50 peaks that exceed 15,000 feet, 700 glaciers and 300 lakes.
La Cordillera Blanca is one of the best and unexplored mountain ski areas in Peru, with a wide winter season and magnificent snow.

The great variety of places, orientations and inclinations allow the practice of skiing in the tropical climate. Skiing in the middle of the great mountains, such as Copa and Huascaran make it unique.

MT. COPA (6,188 M / 20,301 FT.)

If you want to go down from 6188m/ 20301.84 ft. Mount Copa It is the best option, with an added bonus of learning glacier climbing then join us on this ski and snowboard odyssey on one of Cordillera Blanca’s highest peak.

Copa is part of Copa massif, Regardless it does possess a moderate climb route and it´s well-known as the easiest six thousand mountain to climb in the range. The normal route goes mostly on the west glacier plateau with crevasses, seracs, and bergschrunds before the last summit dome; however, you should always be aware of crevasses.

FIRST ASCENT:W slopes; 26 September 1,932 by E. Hein and E. Schneider (D. S.).

SEASON: april to june.

DIFFICULTY: Usually PD (Slightly Difficult – Peu Difficile) and some years AD (Fairly Difficult – Asssez Difficile).

SET CAMPS:Base Camp (4,600 m / 15,091 ft.) and Glacier Camp / Camp I (5,200 m / 17,060 ft.).

SET CAMPS: Optional Base Camp (4,430 m / 14,534 ft.) and Moraine Camp (4,950 m / 16,240 ft.).

Tour Program

Itinerary

Day 01
HUARAZ (3,100 M / 10,170 FT.) – CATAC -BASE CAMP
From Huaraz to Base Camp in Transfer (2 h), then walk up to glacier (3 hrs) - Caullaraju Summit (5,681 m / 18,641 ft.) descend on ski and return to Huaraz (2 hrs).
Day 02
Huaraz (3,100 m / 10,170 ft.) – Vícos (tanque) (3,200 m / 10,498 ft.) – Copa Base (4,600 m / 15,091 ft.)
From Huaraz to Vicos (tanque) in Transfer (1 1/3 h), then approximation walk to Copa Base Camp (4 / 5 hrs).
Day 03
COPA BASE CAMP – GLACIER CAMP / CAMP I (5,200 M / 17,060 FT.).
From Base Camp walk up to Glacier Camp / Camp I (4 / 5 hrs); moraine and glacier terrain.
Day 04
GLACIER CAMP / CAMP I – MT. COPA SUMMIT (6,188 M / 20,301 FT.) – COPA BASE CAMP.
From Glacier Camp / Camp I; climb up to Copa Summit and then down to Glacier Camp / Camp I (10 /12 hrs) and finally extra walk down to Base Camp (2 / 2 ½ hrs).
Day 05
COPA BASE CAMP – VICOS (TANQUE) – HUARAZ.
From Base Camp walk down to Vicos (tanque) (3 hrs) and then in Transfer back to Huaraz (1 ½ hrs).
